Batch Genealogy

Record which lots went into each batch and which batches were made from it — ingredient lots for food, API and excipient lots for pharma, grower lots for agriculture, bulk and raw-material lots for cosmetics. When something goes wrong, you can see every affected batch in one place and recall them together.

What you'll need

  • An active Meiver account (any plan)
  • Batches: update permission to add or remove inputs
  • Batches: create permission to split or combine (new batches count towards your monthly batch limit)
  • Recalls: create permission to recall batches made from a recalled batch

Inputs, splits and combined lots

Every link says “this input went into that batch”. An input is either another batch of the same brand, or a supplier lot you don't track as a batch (lot code, and optionally the supplier name). Links stay inside one brand (entity) — they never cross brands or companies.

The wording follows your industry: Ingredient lots (food), Input materials (pharma), Source lots and Aggregate lots (agriculture), Bulk & raw material lots (cosmetics).

1

Record what went into a batch

Open a batch, choose the Genealogy tab and click Add input. Pick one of your batches (search by batch number, lot code or product) or enter a supplier lot. Quantity, unit and the ingredient / component are optional.
Loops are refused automatically — a batch can never end up as its own ingredient, however many steps apart.
Approved batches are locked: unapprove the batch before changing its inputs.
2

Split a batch

Use Split batch to turn one lot into 2–50 new batches (e.g. a harvest lot packed into retail lots, or a bulk lot filled into several fills). Each new batch gets the same product, dates and origin, its own stages, and the original batch recorded as its input.
Every new batch counts towards your monthly batch limit. If the limit doesn't have room for all of them, nothing is created.
3

Combine lots

Use Combine lots on the Genealogy tab, or select two or more batches in the batch list and click the combine button. Choose the product, batch number and dates of the new batch, and optionally how much of each batch was used.
The expiry rule of your industry applies to the new batch — it is optional only for agriculture.

Balance check

When a batch has a quantity and is used in other batches, the Genealogy tab compares the two (same unit only). If more is recorded as used than the batch's quantity, you see a warning. It never blocks you — weighing and rounding differences are normal — it just helps you spot mistakes.

Using a batch that is under recall

Recalled batches (and batches with a draft or active recall) still appear in the search, marked in red and listed last. If you add one as an input, split it or combine it, you see the recall reason and must confirm that the lot was actually used before it is saved. Recording it matters: the link is what lets the recall reach the batches made from it. Your confirmation is kept in the audit log.

Recalls through the genealogy

On a recall whose batch was used to make other batches, a Batches made from this batch panel lists every affected batch, nearest first. Select them and click Recall selected: each gets its own draft recall with the same reason and severity, and is marked Recalled. Nothing reaches consumers until you activate a recall.

Exports

  • One-up / one-down CSV from the Genealogy tab — what went in and what it went into.
  • The Official Controls export and print view include the same two lists when genealogy exists.
  • The RASFF recall export lists input lots and every affected downstream lot.
Consumer page — “Sourced from” (optional, off by default)
Turn it on in Settings → Consumer Settings → Display. It lists each input's ingredient or product with its country and month.
Supplier names, lot codes and quantities are never shown to consumers.
On the Trail template, inputs linked to a registered facility also appear as the first stops on the journey map, at the facility's chosen display precision.
Not available for pharmaceutical brands.
Troubleshooting

Common issues & FAQs

I can't delete a batch+
A batch recorded as an input of other batches can't be deleted — that would erase their history. Remove it from their Genealogy tab first.
"That would create a loop"+
The batch you picked was itself made (directly or further down) from the batch you are editing. Check the order of the link.
Add input is missing+
You need update permission on batches, and the batch must not be approved.
Can I link batches of another brand or company?+
No. Links stay within one brand (entity). For lots that come from elsewhere, record them as supplier lots.
Can I link sample (demo) batches to real ones?+
No — sample data stays separate so 'Clear demo data' removes it cleanly.
The history says it's large and shows 'Show more'+
Very long chains show the nearest 500 links / 25 levels first. 'Show more' loads up to 2,000 links / 100 levels; the CSV export and the RASFF export always cover the full one-up / one-down record.
Do customers get emailed when I recall the batches made from a recalled batch?+
Yes, once you activate each draft recall — subscribers of that batch are notified exactly like any other recall (paid plans with recall notifications on). Drafts send nothing.
